Safety Eyewear

Safety glasses

Each year more than 700,000 Americans injure their eyes at work. Another 125,000 injure their eyes at home. More than 40,000 American children and adults suffer from eye injuries during sports.

In addition, many more of these eye injuries go unreported. Proper protective eyewear can prevent up to 90% of all of these eye injuries. This is why safety glasses are important.

Many people with jobs such as pipefitters, welders, machinist and carpenters may wear protective safety goggles at work and not at home. This is not the best choice.

Those of us who are athletes, or have children that are athletes are especially prone to eye injury. At Visionarts Eyecare Center we see a large number of eye injuries especially in kids with things like elbows to the eye during football.

We also see injuries in people that do lawn work. Working with weed trimmers, mowers and power tools at home there are reasons that you should use safety eyewear in your everyday life.

Safety lenses are made from a specialty material called polycarbonate. There are also safety lenses made from glass but remember glass is never shatterproof so they are very thick.

Polycarbonate sheets are going to be much thinner and honestly much more impact-resistant. There many options for people who want safety glasses. Safety glasses don’t always look like safety glasses. Glasses such as the ones in the video are safety rated and can be fitted with sunglass lenses.

This is important particularly for people who work in landscaping, fishermen or hunters, folks who want a more stylish option for their safety glasses. Hobby shooters, skeet shooters, and target shooters, often do not want to sacrifice style.

At Visionarts Eyecare Center, we specialize in shooting glasses. We are often asked to replace these dark lenses with a yellow lens that is impact-resistant. This improves your contrast sensitivity and makes everything bright and Vivid and a lot of our shooters prefer that.

There are a lots more options for safety eyewear than you might imagine. It's certainly an important option to consider when you're here at Visionarts Eyecare Center we will not just speak with you about your vision, but about your lifestyle and your hobbies and things you will be doing while wearing your glasses.
